The power pole was submerged at a depth in excess of 4 metres, requiring decommission and removal works to be conducted from a floating work platform. Synergy utilised two modular barges in conjunction with its 8 tonne excavator and a team of Australian Diver Accreditation Scheme (ADAS) certified divers to successfully complete the works.
Throughout the course of the works, Synergy were required to manage and contain potentially hazardous materials and prevent release to the environment from cooling/insulating oil contained within an electrical transformer that was suspected of containing toxic polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB’s) and heavy metals. The project was completed on time on budget and in accordance to Synergy’s internal QHSE systems.
