In January this year, Synergy commenced construction of their multi-million-dollar multi-barrier Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to provide water treatment services onsite for Lendlease, for the Crown Sydney Hotel Resort project located at Barangaroo, NSW. The Crown Sydney Hotel Resort will be Sydney’s first six-star luxury hotel, featuring approximately 350 hotel rooms, suites, restaurants, retail outlets, conference rooms and casino gaming. Synergy’s WTP will be fully operational in August 2017, and is integral to the successful construction of Crown’s flagship Casino.
The construction of the Crown Casino building will be through a novel ‘top down’ approach, with the ground floor being constructed prior to the basement. The works will continue upwards, whilst excavation, de-watering of groundwater, foundations and the construction of the concrete structure are commenced in the basement.
As a former gasworks, the Barangaroo site retains a wide range of potential contaminants within the site fill material, bedrock and groundwater. To combat these groundwater concerns, Synergy have designed a world-first, multi-barrier WTP designed specifically to target the complex suite of contaminants. The WTP will be able to operate at varying intervals and flow rates, with capability to treat highly contaminated water at up to 25 L/s, enabling Lendlease to meet Crown’s construction deadline. Synergy’s bespoke approach will meet the Barangaroo Delivery Authority (BDA) stringent Environmental Protection Limit (EPL), imposed by the NSW EPA for the site, to allow treated water to be discharged directly to Sydney Harbour.
