The project took place at the Explosive Ordinance Storage Area (EOSA) which is the main facility in Tasmania for the Department of Defence. The Traverse Remediation project was delivered by Synergy Resource Management Pty Ltd, managed by Aurecon and designed by GHD Pty Ltd. The scope of work was based upon a detailed investigation and groundwork for the covering of Explosive Store House Traverse Walls with Concrete Canvas (CC8).
The Concrete Canvas was a flexible concrete impregnated fabric that harden on hydration to form a thin, durable, water and fire proof concrete protective hardened layer (skin).
The concrete canvas had never been used in Australia before and Synergy was task with covering the existing walls which consisted of self-supporting soil reinforced cells with the concrete canvas to increase the strength and extend the lifetime of these existing self-supporting soil reinforced cells.
Synergy’s scope of work included the pre & post work survey, delivering the traverse preparation then completing the installation of the concrete canvas followed by the application of hydration phase at completion to ensure the concrete canvas set in place around the soil reinforced cells creating an impervious skin (hardened outer layer).
