Directors Wrap Up

The new financial year is off to a strong start, with our success in securing the PFAS Soil Remediation project at Pinkenba for Viva Energy. We also have a solid pipeline of projects, including Eviron Landfill Haul Road and Summerhill Landfill. Several water treatment projects are wrapping up, including Moorebank, and we are preparing for future work by focusing on maintenance and the tenders we have submitted recently.

Synergy continues to invest in key equipment, including a CAT D8T Dozer, 13,000L Water Cart and Hitachi Wheel Loader.

We would like to warmly welcome the following new staff:

Northern NSW

End of Year Conference

This year, the Synergy End of Year Conference will be held at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Gold Coast. This glamorous Main Beach icon is the perfect sun sanctuary, just outside the buzz of Surfers Paradise.

Safety Alert

As we gear up for a busy run into Christmas we would like to remind all operators of the potential hazards associated with entering and exiting mobile plant. Entering and exiting a machine is a daily task that becomes second nature for operators and it is therefore easy to become complacent. In 2023, slips, trips and falls made up for 22% of serious workers compensation claims.

Corrective Actions

  • Remove excessive mud from machine steps and platforms
  • Remove excessive mud from work boots
  • Do not step on obstacles (logs, rocks etc.) when accessing or exiting the machine
  • Face in the direction of the machine when ascending / descending ladders and steps
  • Maintain 3 points of contact with the steps and handholds (2 feet and 1 hand, or 1 foot and 2 hands)
  • Ensure your body and hands / fingers are clear of the door jam before closing the cab door
  • Do not jump off the machine when exiting

Fun fact

Mark Spitz, nine-time US Olympic swimming champion, once jokingly told the Russian swim team coach in 1972 that his moustache increased his swimming speed by deflecting water away from his mouth. The next year, every Russian swimmer was sporting one.
