Directors Wrap Up

Hi All,

As another financial year closes, we can celebrate our achievements, reflect on our challenges and look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead.

We are now embarking on several new projects including Richard Crookes Moorebank (Water Services), Cleanaway RAAF Amberley Dewatering (Water Services), Monroe Australia Removal of Underground Storage Tanks and associated works at Alexandria (Remediation), John Holland Belmont Desalination Dewatering & Treatment (Water Services), ARTC Interim Control Goulburn (Remediation) and recently awarded an additional two car parks to our current Construction of Five Car Parks contract (Infrastructure). We also continue to win various smaller projects involving asbestos remediation works which is a credit to the team.

We have now signed the Rio Tinto for the Ferrous Sulphate supply contract and Plant & Personnel contract. Both contracts are for 5 years in our Mining Services sector.

The significance of disaster relief, recovery and reconstruction programs seem to be an all too common topic in recent times. Our Taree team had to deal with this recently, the Manning River flooded to a level never seen before at Taree surpassing the 1929 record of six metres. We’re so relieved that Steve, James and the team are ok and wish them and their family and friends a speedy recovery.

As we move into the second half of 2025, we remain committed to creating safer environments. Together, we strive to create a workplace where everyone feels secure and empowered to perform their best. Safety is not just a policy—it’s a core value.

Finally, we would like to acknowledge and celebrate Scott Hillier for reaching an incredible milestone—10 years of service with Synergy!

Over the past decade, Scott has consistently demonstrated dedication, professionalism and a passion for excellence. His contributions have played a vital role in our success and the positive impact on the team is immeasurable. Please join us in congratulating Scott on this remarkable achievement. We are grateful for your commitment and look forward to many more years of collaboration and success!

Thank you Scott!

Fun fact

🚀 The Apollo computers that got humans to the moon had less processing power than a modern calculator or digital watch.

Staff Profile

  • Name

    Scott Hillier

  • Job title

Operations Manager Northern NSW / SE QLD

  • How long have you been working with Synergy?

    10 Years and 1 Month

  • What was your previous job before Synergy?

Operations Manager at Forest Enterprises Australia

  • Is it true that you were abandoned by your family and raised by Greg

Not quite! I actually have a wonderful and supportive family back in Tasmania. That said, Greg and I have worked closely together for many years, starting at Forest Enterprises Australia and continuing here at Synergy. Greg made the move over about five years before I did, and our working relationship built on mutual trust, a shared work ethic, and a lot of laughs has grown stronger over nearly two decades. While we might not be family in the traditional sense, we’ve certainly built a professional bond that sometimes feels like one.

  • If you could switch jobs with anyone in Synergy for a day, who would it be and why?

Al Nicol, id love to sit amongst the Canberra elite, have a cuppa with Albo, hit the gym with Jacky Lambie, sit down to dinner at the Lodge with a nice Tawny Port every night.

  • If you were arrested with no explanation, what would your coworkers assume you did?

Snapped and choked someone to death.

  • If your northern rivers team were trapped in an elevator, who becomes the leader, who cries first, and who tries to climb out?

If you asked my lovely partner she would say I would be the leader because I’m a control freak and a perfectionist so I wouldn’t easily take stupid ill informed advise, Hayden would cry first (we are now even Hayden!), Mick Timu would climb out like a spider monkey!

  • Who has a cleaner work vehicle Tony or Rhys?

Hard question! Rhys’ vehicle is immaculate! As is Tony’s! Tony has lots of protective measures in place so I suggest once they were removed Tony’s vehicle would still look like it is straight off the showroom floor like his Excavator, but Rhys is a very close second!
