The sports field needed to be upgraded to improve the playing conditions and cater for increased numbers. The works include irrigation infrastructure, sub-surface drainage, field illumination, potable/reuse water installation, storm water management, 200-space sealed carpark and road widening.
More than 13,000m2 of earth was stripped before importing highly specified topsoil and A Grade turf. Field irrigation was installed through electronic controlled heads with subsoil drainage thereby improving field functionality and preserving the integrity of the turf in a high rainfall zone. To further enhance surface water drainage, stormwater networks were installed which included draining subsurface infrastructure and peak flow bioretention filter basins processing stormwater flows.
Prior to works commencing, Synergy identified the potential drainage issue on the site and were able to propose custom-built stormwater infrastructure to better cater for the drainage requirements and allow for more efficiently manage surface water onsite, ensuring field integrity will be kept in tack. In order to further improve drainage conditions on site, Synergy constructed an aesthetically appealing rock retaining wall with custom concrete drainage with waterfall ends which will ensure stormwater and surface flow is managed during rainfall events.
Another potential issue found onsite was discovered on excavation of the footprint. The area designated for sealed surfaces required significant subgrade improvements and additional subsurface drainage. Synergy were able to make adjustments and enhance the subsurface conditions in order to stabilise the site on which to complete the construction activities.
