Synergy were engaged by the Acciona Georgiou Joint Venture (AG-JV) to design, operate, and maintain four Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) to manage PFAS impacted piling water for the Coomera Connector Project, QLD.

Synergy's treatment plants were tasked with removing Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances PFAS) to non-detect levels, beyond the PFAS NEMP 99% protection criteria. A 400kl treated water catchment system was required for batch treatment, sampling and discharge.

The plants also managed high turbidity (+500,000 NTU), suspended solids (+300,000 TSS), and adjusted pH from 10 to 6.5-8. With influent volumes up to 180,000L/day, received at 20L/s, the process included high flow catchment, coagulation, flocculation and a substantial settlement system to clarify water. The PFAS removal stage included the use of ion exchange and activated carbon filtration. The high solids content of piling water generated significant volumes of sludge. Synergy's Solids Dewatering Unit reduced the sludges moisture content by 90%, generating a significant cost saving for the client when disposing of materials offsite.

We have really enjoyed working with Synergy, not only for the success of the treatment facilities, but also for the professionalism and self sufficiency of crews onsite.
