Synergy were contracted by Clarence Valley Council to upgrade the Ken Leeson Oval. Site levels were verified using laser levelling to determine cut and fill. Soil amelioration and turfing was undertaken followed by design and construction of a hydraulic irrigation and pumping system.
The upgrade of the Ken Leeson Oval provides a safe and self-sufficient playing surface for several different sporting codes. Upkeep has been automated through a SCADA system to manage the pumphouse and irrigations system
Challenges for the works were encountered as the scope was reduced to the upgrade of the rectangular field while the design included the two cricket ovals on the outside. This meant that the design levels needed to be matched to the existing fields when installing the irrigation and turfing.
Additional works were added to the scope including the construction of a new synthetic cricket pitch and installation of a potable mainline feed to the feeder tank as a backup to the recycled water feed.
