The Narrabri Shire Council (NSC) owned and operated waste management facility provides for the waste disposal needs of approximately 13,000 residents in the LGA. Synergy was engaged to construct a new piggyback landfill cell to ensure the continuous provision of essential services.
As part of the NSC strategic planning to cater for expected growth and ensure the Narrabri Community has adequate waste disposal capacity in the short term Synergy was contracted to construct the EPA approved Piggyback Cell 1.
The project required the removal of 6,000 cubic meters of pre-existing soil and waste materials to attain the design subgrade levels as well as adhere to rigorous geotechnical and engineering conformity standards. This included in-situ waste haulage to the site’s active cell for disposal. After establishing subgrade conformance Synergy constructed and installed the Piggback Cell design that included emplacement of imported select fill material, installation of conforming engineered lining systems and connection of a complex landfill gas drainage network.
