These sites were affected during the 2022 floods and resulted in sections of asphalt becoming delaminated and overall deterioration of the pavement as a whole. Synergy was tasked with reviewing the designs and constructing these within the detailed timeframes to the design provided.
Due to the location of several sites accommodating sporting facilities and being located near popular beaches, Council had stipulated key dates for these Carparks to be completed within our program of works.
The key challenges of the project were time-sensitive sites due to public demand over school holidays and failing subgrades that required changes to the design profiles. Conventional profiles were altered to include bridging layers that enhanced stability and met compaction specifications necessary for car park performance and rigidity. Drawing on in-house expertise and specialist engineers from Council, Synergy developed practical and innovative solutions. These included geogrid layers and, where required, EME2 bridging layers and increased foundations. This approach ensured structural stability, reduced the risk of subsidence, and enabled proof rolls and compaction to meet criteria for the safe installation of asphalt.
